Marie Clements' Burning Vision tours to Montreal and Ottawa!
" I think the best stories happen like the wind; they envelop you, surprise you, chill you, move you, and warm you... Marie Clements knows about the wind."
Redwire Magazine
"...a brave new play that bombards the senses and fires up the mind..."
The Globe and Mail
This June, Vancouver's urban ink productions and Rumble Productions will tour our acclaimed production of Marie Clement's Burning Vision to both the Festival de théâtre des Amériques in Montreal and the inaugural Magnetic North Theatre Festival in Ottawa. We are honoured to be traveling east, representing the vibrant work currently being produced on the Vancouver theatre scene.
Burning Vision will be performed at Théâtre Prospero in Montréal on June 4, 5, 6, and 7 and then on June 11, 12, 13, 14, and 16 at the National Arts Centre Theatre in Ottawa.
Burning Vision explores the journey of the uranium rock from its origins in the earth, through water, over land and into fire - the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima. In the late 1800's, a Dene Medicine man sang four songs during his vision of a burning in the sky. The vision indeed came true, but it was on the Japanese and not the Dene. Burning Vision explores the DNA connections that exist within different cultures-in this case, between the Japanese and Dene peoples. At its heart, Burning Vision is a play about the loss of innocence, how we continue to carry the genetic burdens of our ancestors and how we are all connected.
Directed by Peter Hinton with dramaturgy by Paula Danckert, the production features performances from a dynamic culturally diverse cast including Marcus Hondro, Hiro Kanagawa, Margo Kane, Kevin Loring, Julie Tamiko Manning, Allan Morgan, Lisa C. Ravensbergen, Koonis Joyal-Sinclair and Erin Wells, along with an award winning design team.
