The COMPANY Project
By Samuel Beckett
June 6,7,8 Thurs.-Sat. 8:30 pm

"A voice comes to one in on his back in the dark. Imagine."
Vancouver-based Rumble Productions is proud to present a theatrical exploration of Samuel Beckett's novella COMPANY. Participating in this theatre laboratory presentation are some of Canada's most innovative interdisciplinary artists. The COMPANY Project runs for THREE DAYS ONLY starting Thursday June 6 at the Arcadian Hall.
In COMPANY Samuel Becket explores the relationship between the individual's innate solitude and the attempt to create for oneself a sense of 'company'. Written late in his life, COMPANY intrudes into the Cartesian world of one man's reflection on the prevailing nothingness of loneliness, where any interruption may be taken to be 'company'.
COMPANY is directed by Chris Gerrard-Pinker, who has been involved in new play development as writer, director and dramaturg at such companies as Nightwood Theatre, Sword Theatre and Video Cabaret in Toronto. He is a former associate director for Theatre Passe Muraille, and recently directed Andreas Kahre's A Concise History of Drumming at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre.
The COMPANY Project brings together a group of well-established artists from various disciplines in an attempt to find a more collaborative way of working towards theatrical presentation. All production elements are being fully integrated from the outset, with designers, actors, and production personnel working together to uncover images in the text. The audience is invited to be a part of this alternative showing which breaks with the traditional boundaries between designer, performer, and audience.
Participating in COMPANY are: Norman Armour, recently seen in A Concise History of Drumming and Tamahnous Theatre's 5 Blood Alley; David Hay, seen in Touchstone Theatre's The Invisible Detective; Rebekah Johnson, resident designer at Dark Horse Theatre; composer and author Andreas Kahre from Cymbali new music ensemble; Megan Leitch, who played Cecile in Les Liasons Dangereuses at The Vancouver Playhouse; Peter Ryan, a founding member of EDAM and movement instructor at Studio 58; Toronto choreographer Tom Stroud; and Jessie award-winning freelance designer and sculptor Phillip Tidd.
The COMPANY Project will have three showings, June 6, 7, & 8 at 8:30 pm in the Arcadian Hall at 2214 Main Street in Vancouver. Ticket prices are $8 regular, and $5 for students, seniors, and underemployed. Reservations can be made by calling 875-6252. Audience members will be encouraged to share their reactions with the ensemble after the presentation.
