Rumble Theatre seeks actors for our 2014 production of Djanet Sears’ Governor General’s Award-winning play, Harlem Duet, directed by Artistic Director Stephen Drover.

Harlem Duet is the modern-day prelude to Othello and tells the story of Othello and his first wife, Billie (before Desdemona). Set in contemporary Harlem at the corner of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X boulevards, the play explores the space where race and sex intersect and where a love story negotiates the rocky terrain of politics, culture and heritage.
The following parts are being cast:
Othello: male, African-American, late thirties
Billie: female, African-American, mid-late thirties
Canada: male, Billie’s father, African-American, mid-late sixties
Amah: female, Billie’s sister-in-law, African-American, late twenties/early thirties
Magi: female, the landlady, African-American, late thirties/early forties
