Mandate

Rumble produces provocative theatre from the contemporary repertoire and commissions & produces new Canadian adaptations of outstanding stories. Our productions are demanding of both our actors and our audiences by fearlessly placing the brutal and ugly alongside the beautiful and transcendent. We provide integrated mentorship opportunities within the context of our production activities and serve the theatre community by sharing our knowledge and material resources. The theatre we make is for curious, discerning people who crave challenging experiences and meaningful revelations.

About Rumble

Rumble has been entertaining Vancouver audiences and fostering Canadian theatre artists for over twenty years. The company has produced over 28 critically acclaimed shows, including 19 world premieres, and received numerous honours, including 41 Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards nominations.

Rumble was founded in 1990 by Norman Armour and Chris Gerrard-Pinker with a focus on creating, performing and producing multi-disciplinary work. During Norman’s tenure as Artistic Producer, the company developed new plays by some of Canada’s smartest playwrights, fostered artistic residencies with innovative theatre makers, supported emerging companies with The Young and the Restless series, showed classic movies outdoors as a part of Silent Summer Nights, and founded the ground-breaking PuSh Festival.

In 2006, Craig Hall took over as Artistic Producer and founded the TREMORS Festival of emerging arts, led the company through three iterations of the much-lauded HIVE theatre installation event, launched creation centre Progress Lab 1422, and continued to produce and present critically-acclaimed shows.

In 2012, Stephen Drover was hired as Rumble’s new Artistic Director, with a commitment to take the company in exciting new directions, while still maintaining its commitment to artistic excellence.
